Reviews
I've seen Thomas Kinkade's art books in the library at bookstores for many years. Each one has something nice. The drawings are a look at Americana, and provide an insight for other people in the world why the US is a model for other nations. The scenes are of home life, villages, cities, commerce, and the themes are friendliness, love, and family. The pictures are nice to look at and remind of us places we've been or how we would like the world to be.The pictures and sayings, like "Somewhere out there is a unique place for you to serve, a unique role for you to fill" (November picture of a homecoming and welcome of a veteran to his country home) can be taken as art.Yet, there is a seriousness to these matters sometimes overlooked by politicians. As the Chinese proverb goes, the strength of a nation starts with its families and in its home, and if the families are weak, so is the nation. Strangely enough, the wealth and technology of today in 2018 cannot fix he relations of many divorced couples (who are very often high quality people, just unfortunate in some of their choices), and the higher income from long hours does not fully compensate for a lack of vacation and fun. Thomas Kinkade may no longer be with us, but his spirit and art lives on. This calendar is a nice addition for most homes, and the pictures can make good art posters after the year is over. In particular the feeling of coziness is apparent in these paintings (Mr. Kinkade would have liked travelling in The Netherlands and Denmark, as both of these countries also appreciate the feeling and experience of coziness, which the former call "gezellig"). The videos about Kinkade are worth seeing, like many other biographical and art themed videos at the library and online.
